Walnuts first appeared probably somewhere in Central Asia. But it was also known in ancient Greece and Rome and it was a nut dedicated to Zeus. The walnuts come out in the Greek market in August. Imported from abroad mainly from India, Moldova, China, Ukraine, the Balkans and from America. Although Indian walnuts are very good compared to others, because the walnuts imported from Eastern countries (eg Moldova) is more like the taste of Greek, are preferred by consumers. The walnuts are used mainly in confectionery.
